Hi! My name is Deborah Lavinsky, PMA®-CPT, Rossiter Coach and owner of Phoenix Pilates and Rossiter Center. I discovered the exercise system known as Pilates over 12 years ago and quickly fell in love with how I felt after my first lesson. Since starting on this journey, I have lost over 80 pounds; going from a size 22 to a petite size 4; ran the PF Chang’s “Rock & Roll Half Marathon,” and competed and finished eleven sprint triathlons. Pilates has helped me gain a leaner and stronger body, improved my balance, relaxes me, and allows me feel more confident. It has helped me through arthroscopic knee surgery and various rehabs with more flexibility than I had even in my 30’s.
As a result of the fantastic transformation of my own body and health, I pursued advanced comprehensive Pilates training through the Pilates Sports Center (PSC) Certification Program. PSC combines classical Pilates with a contemporary, athletic approach with over 500 hours of hands-on training including anatomy, student teaching and thesis project. Loving barre classes, I also completed and certified through PSC’s Burn at the Barre program, one of the hottest fitness classes today. Burn at the Barre combines ballet-inspired movement, uptempo music and effective core strengthening mat work. Guided by the dream of owning a studio in the Moon Valley/North Mountain Preserve community, BellaBody Pilates opened its doors in August 2014. In 2018 I relocated to the East Valley and reopened as Phoenix Pilates and Rossiter Center.
In 2018 I became aware of a system of deep fascial two-person stretches called The Rossiter System. Always curious about learning something new, I hosted a Rossiter System teacher training at my studio. I was blown away by the power of this system to relieve pain and restore mobility. This system was so impressive to all of my classmates and me that we all continued on to complete all four levels of Rossiter training. I am currently the only Certified Rossiter Practitioner in Arizona. The Rossiter System can immediately relieve pain at the source–back, neck, shoulder, hip, knee, arthritis, migraines, plantar fasciitis–just about every ache, pain and annoying knot in your back can be fixed quickly and effectively.
Concerned about aging gracefully and the effects of osteoporosis I have done extensive training with Rebekah Rotstein’s Buff Bones® Program and I am the only licensed Buff Bones® instructor in Phoenix. Buff Bones® is a medically endorsed exercise system designed to promote bone health and balance. It is ideal for anyone with osteoporosis, osteopenia, arthritis, auto-immune diseases and spinal conditions. I design customized sessions to help my clients achieve optimal fitness.
In 2015, I completed the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Functional Training Specialty Certification. Functional Training works effectively with competitive athletes, post-rehab patients and everyday people who need to improve their core, posture, balance, flexibility, strength and improve overall quality of life. I integrate Functional Training programming into all individual fitness classes.
Professionally, I am proud to be a PMA® Certified Pilates Teacher and a member of the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA). As a PMA® Certified Pilates Teacher, continuing education is required and some of the advanced training I completed include using Pilates for post-mastectomy breast cancer reconstruction, post-surgery rotator cuff, postural assessments, scoliosis, and exploring the classical Pilates repertoire. In January 2017, BellaBody Pilates hosted “Pilates for Neurological Conditions” advanced training covering MS, Parkinson’s Disease and stroke, and partnered with the National MS Society, Arizona Chapter. In 2017 I completed Pre- and Post-Natal Pilates course focusing on the prevention and healing of Diastasis Recti (separation of the Linea Alba/abdominal muscle wall). I wish I had these resources available when I was pregnant!
Community involvement has always held a strong interest including serving as appointed council member on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging, member of Charter 100, active with the Arizona Fall Prevention Coalition and was the 2013-2014 Director for Central Phoenix Women. I enjoy playing golf with my husband, knitting, and playing with my adorable Yorkie, Swiffer Wetjet.
